Round 1 Highley
Cotswold Youth and AMX Club opened their 2022 season championship at Highley near Bridgenorth, with heavy rain leading up to the Event it was with thanks to the landowners work on the track that we were able to hold the meeting and by Sunday morning the conditions were perfect.
The first out the gate was a full line up of Expert group with some top-quality riders the competition was fierce with Jak Taylor getting the hole shot closely followed by Ross Millard and Rory Jones. Ben Mustoe, following on from his 1th overall at Materley in the EMX 125 the week before was involved in a tangle which impeded Rob Yates, with Ben ending up at the back of the pack and Rob Yates in 25th. On lap 3 a mistake by Jak Taylor gave the lead to Ross Millard with Jak dropping back to 5th place, Rob yates had worked his way up to 9th place and Ben Mustoe to 18th. On Lap 4 a better line choice by Rory Jones gave him the chance to take the lead and start to pull away at the front of the field, Rob continued his progress through the pack. The race ended with Rory Jones followed by Rob Yates and Adam Wells with Ben Mustoe fighting his way back to 8th place. Race 2 for the Expert saw Dan Maule get the hole shot with Rob Yates much better placed, Rorry Jones coming through in 10th place, the race finished with Rob Yates getting the win followed by Rory Jones and Luke Dean. So the overall placings came down to the last race of the day with Dan Maule getting the hole shot and Rory Jones in fourth and Rob Yates in 8th by the end of the first lap it was Rory followed by Yates, On the penultimate lap a small mistake by Rory gave Rob the chance to pass and take the overall top step leaving Rory Jones 2nd and Jak Taylor 3rd overall.
Next to the Line was the Youth Group with another full line up, it was Finley Evans from the GRT Impact KTM team who took the hole shot from Lewis Roden and Jay Bond closely followed by Charlie Hucklebridge and Jack Parker. Finley dominated the race pulling away at the front leaving the rest of the riders to scrap over the lower placings. The race was cut short and Red Flagged after a crash, second place was taken by Jay Bond and Charlie Hucklebridge third. Race 2 saw another great performance by Finley Evans taking another gate to finish win followed in by Dylan Williams and Charlie Hucklebridge. Race 3 saw the hole shot taken by Archie Taylor with Finley Evans down in 8th place but he was so dominant in this class that by the end of the first lap he was back in front. The race finished with Dyaln Williams in second and Lewis Roden in third. The overall result was a perfect score for Finley Evans followed by Dylan Williams 2nd and Charlie Hucklebridge 3rd
Next out was the Over 35 group Race 1 Jamie Dobson took the hole shot followed by Gary Davies and Matt Johnson and Sam Callow down in 8th place by the end of the race Gary Davies worked his way past Jamie Dobson and Sam Callow battled up to 3rd Place. Race 2 Sam Callow took the hole shot followed by the two rivals Garry Davies and Jamie Dobson a mistake by Sam Allowed the two through and that is how it finished. Race 3 once again Sam Callow took the hole shot but was soon passed by Jamie Dobson followed by Gary Davies who battled hard all race including a lunge at the finish flag but just missed out on the perfect result and had to settle for 2nd place in the last race. The group finished with Garry Davies taking the Overall from Jamie Dobson 2nd and Sam Callow in Third.
Next out was another full line up of Adult B riders with Rio Milsom taking the hole shot from Thomas Watson and Jacob Gwynne with Tanisha Thomas coming through in 4th place, by the end of the first lap both Thomas Watson and Jacob Gwynne passed Rio and by the third lap Jacob had taken the lead. The race finished with Jacob Winning followed by Thomas Watson and Jack Jordan. Race 2 Thomas Watson had the hole shot followed by Tom Garness, Jacob Gwynne and Chad Prosser in 4th. The second Lap saw Chad Prosser move up to second place and Tom Slip back to 4th place, As the race developed Jacob managed to take the lead closely followed by Chad who moved in to second place but didn’t have enough time to get the top spot, The race finished Jacob Gwynne 1st, Chad Prosser 2nd, Thomas Watson 3rd and Tom Garness in 4th Place. Race 3 Thomas Watson took the hole shot again followed by Rio Milsom and Jacob Gwynne b y the end of the Race Chad Prosser had once again worked his way up and took the win from Jacob Gwynne and Thomas Watson taking a very close third. Overall this group finished 1st Jacob Gwynne, 2nd Thomas Watson, 3rd Jack Jordan.
The big wheel 85cc class were out next and this was dominated by two riders from Team Matt Gardiner MX with Freddie Gardiner taking all three race wins easily and Gus Mustoe making a little harder for himself poor starts but coming out with two 3rds and a 2nd in the last race to take the second step away from an unlucky Oakley Kettle who had two good second place finishes from the first two races but a poor start in race 3 left him with too much to do and could only manage 5th place in the last race.
The small wheel 85cc saw another Matt Gardiner MX rider give a dominant display with Olly waters having two race wins and a second in the last race for the top step overall, Jenson Severn who improved as the day went on finished with two second places and a well-deserved win in the final race. Harley Pricket looked set for a good solid third overall but bike issues in the last race allowed a consistent Junior Carroll-Stone with two fourth place and a third place grab the last step on the podium.
The Junior 65cc was won easily by Casey lister with three gate to flag wins leaving all the battling on track for the lower placings, there were some good performances from Archie Stapley, Charlie Mitchell and Jet Gardiner all with seconds and thirds to their name but with two second place finishes Archie grabbed the second spot with Charlie in third place.
The final group on track were the little warriors on their 50cc automatic machines on a slightly shortened track Jack Walters made an impressive first outing taking two race wins closely followed by Harri Luckwell, Charlie Farmer and Franklin Cording. The battle of the girls in this group was won by a consistent Sienna-Mai Southern closely followed by Ivy Warren and Lola-Mai Hyett whose bike problems in the first two races left her trailing in the points till a good final race performance.
